Board Of Directors

O.B Chilembo (Chairman)
Oliver Bangala Chilembo is a private legal practitioner who has held previous appointments in the Zambian Public Service. He has also served as Deputy Registrar of the Patents and Companies Office, Company Secretary of Indeco Limited, Secretary of the Bank of Zambia, General Manager of Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc and General Manager Development Bank of Zambia.

His vast experience has earned him directorships with Capital Bank Limited, New Capital Bank Limited and Pan African Building Society. He also served as Honorary Consul of the Republic of South Korea at Lusaka for six years until March 2004. He has since retired from all engagements and is currently concentrating on his legal practice, O.B. Chilembo and Company.

M.L Zulu
Mathew L. Zulu was involved in the management of the Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ). He is widely experienced in the labour-related aspects of corporate governance. He has been on the board of Kariba Minerals since 2000.

S.M. Malama
Steven Malama is a senior legal practitioner with Jacques & Partners. He has extensive experience in corporate governance, having served as a director on various boards in different industries, including Professional Insurance Corporation Limited, Zambezi Portland Cement, Professional Assurance Company Limited, Chambishi Metals Plc, and Luanshya Copper Mines.

Cyrille Djankoff
Cyrille Djankoff has a Bachelor’s of engineering in computer science and is gemmology graduate of the ING in Paris. He has over 20 years of experience in gemstone mining and marketing, from precious to ornamental stones. He has participated in a number of business ventures in Mozambique, Brazil, and Tajikistan. He is also a sales executive with Gemfields PLC. Mr. Djankoff is a French national.

 

 

Management

Monze Himululi
Acting General Manager and Chief Accountant, is in charge of all of the company’s accounting and administrative functions. He joined KML in 1994, and has over 15 years of experience in accounting. A graduate of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA), he also holds a diploma in accountancy from Evelyn Hone College, a state auditor’s diploma, and a management certificate.

Achala Chakrapani
Head of Operation and in charge of the Amethyst production. With more than 17 years in the mining industry, he has a great deal of experience in large open pit heavily mechanised operations in India, Bangladesh and DRC. His experience range from Lafarge Cement and Madras Cement to Rubamin and Chemaf. Mr.Chakrapani holds a Mining Engineering degree from Andhra University in India.

 

Staff

The company employs 225 permanent workers. Four of these are in senior management and six are in middle management.

The staff is very skilled in the amethyst production process. Management’s immediate professional development objective for the staff is to provide training in equipment maintenance and gemmology, especially at supervisory levels. This measure will go a long way toward improving quality control.
